The Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms

"The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms."

—Samuel Adams

Hello, my fellow citizens of the 94th district. I hope this message finds you well and that you all had a great holiday season with friends and family. Today, I want to discuss a constitutional right important to us all—the right to keep and bear arms.

In addition to the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, Article 1 Section 30 of the North Carolina Constitution is clear: "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." As your representative in Raleigh, I will not infringe on the rights of North Carolina's citizens to purchase, own, and enjoy their firearms.

I have properly respected and appreciated firearms since an early age. I have trained others in how to use firearms as a tool to defend themselves and their families. That list includes individuals, private security, and law enforcement. Our right to keep and bear arms is more than just a constitutional provision; it's a cornerstone of our freedom and part of the very essence of what it means to be an American.

It amazes me how the Left loves to label gun violence while completely ignoring violence caused by any other means. Violence is violence, no matter how it's carried out. If a police officer uses his gun in the line of duty or a law-abiding citizen uses a gun to defend themselves, the Left considers that gun violence and uses that to skew the statistics. Democrats think more gun regulations that restrict law-abiding citizens from owning guns is a solution to prevent future gun violence. That is simply not true.

The North Carolina Democrat Party Platform describes how Democrats in Raleigh seek to implement more gun control, such as red flag laws and banning the selling and possession of assault rifles. What is an assault rifle? It's a made-up term used by the Left. The AR in AR-15 does not stand for assault rifle; instead, it stands for ArmaLite rifle. The Left will eventually label our hunting rifles as assault rifles if we sit idly by and let them.

We cannot let this happen. As your representative, I will not forfeit our freedom to keep and bear arms over into the hands of the government, whether that be in Raleigh or Washington, DC. We do not need more gun control. This is not the solution to gun violence or mass shootings. If you don't believe me, then ask someone living in Chicago, where they have some of the strictest gun laws in the country, and see how well gun control is working for them. A "gun-free zone" can be one of the most dangerous places to be. Gun control is about one thing: control. The fact is the government wants more control.

I will wholeheartedly commit to defending and championing this constitutional right in every way possible. I will ensure that we can protect ourselves and our families.

However, I can't do it alone. I need your support, your voice, and your vote. Let's come together, united in our mission to safeguard our cherished right to keep and bear arms, not only for ourselves but also for our children and future generations.

Together, we can ensure that our right to keep and bear arms remains an enduring and unassailable part of our American identity.

Sincerely,

Blair Eddins
